For my final project I wanted to create something that resembled the feeling of nostalgia. I love learning about peoples stories and histories and it’s fascinating to me how many memories are lost. I collected so many photo slides from random people that I wanted to give them the chance to be seen and remembered even from the gaze of a stranger like me. I created a lamp and layered different film slides on it as to represent memories and the ones that are missing that we forget as well as the ones that mix with others. I made it a lampshade because I wanted to show how when we don’t illuminate certain memories or histories its almost like they don’t exist. In addition to the photos I added paint to obstruct some of the photos, because sometimes we block out memories or don’t remember them accurately to what they were. I also drew and painted over other slides to show how we distort our memories or try to remember parts that weren’t there to begin with.
